Nigeria has a big pavilion and a big presence here at ITU Telecom World every year. The root value that you see is in two ways: when you come here and you speak with other ministers of ICT and hear what they are doing, and when we have these conversations where you bring in experts from all over the world to talk about the future, it validates what you are doing. So if you are completely on the wrong track from what the rest of the world is doing, you know you have to come back in line. It has really validated what we are doing in broadband and digital skills. The second thing is that it enables us to learn, to think how does this impact our present context, what should we be doing in the very near future.

“I love this event for this simple reason. It is an opportunity to meet global partners, to share experiences, for us to learn and share solutions to some of the challenges that we may be facing on the continent. Every time we attend this event we move closer to the goal of global connectivity because we realise where the gaps are, and we develop strategies on how to bridge those gaps, so this event is really important: it is a one stop shop for all players, it is an all-inclusive framework that facilitates our move towards our desired goal of achieving global connectivity.”

Fred Matiang’i, Minister for ICT, Kenya
